Puppy Curriculum

Dog Basic Command

Your puppy comes home knowing their name and how to sit for what they want — and, more importantly, how to learn.

Why it matters

From week six puppies are old enough to connect a cue with a reward. We use lure-and-reward, marker words and tiny sessions — thirty seconds, several times a day — to teach a default sit, name recognition and the start of recall.

The bigger lesson is 'manners make good things happen'. Puppies learn that sitting, not jumping, opens the pen door and earns the food bowl.

In practice

What we start

  1. Name recognition

Their litter name (or yours, once you've chosen) paired with treats and attention.

  2. Sit

Lured, then offered freely for meals and greetings.

  3. Come

Puppy-puppy-puppy recall games across the yard with the whole litter.

  4. Marker word

A cheerful 'yes!' that tells your puppy exactly what earned the reward.

What it means for you

At home with your puppy

  • A head start

Your first training class begins with a puppy who already knows how to try.

  • Polite greetings

A default sit means fewer jumping puppies and happier guests.

  • Same language

We send home the words and hand signals we used so nothing gets lost.
